Z Is For "Zapato" {Shoe} | A To Z Challenge

In my ongoing efforts to learn Spanish, I'm highlighting a Spanish word each day during April as part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I'm also sharing the random thoughts that pop into my head when I try to pronounce them.

****

Today's Spanish word is >>zapato<< (shoe). And now for some random thoughts:

1 - I own seven pairs of shoes - hiking boots, sneakers, cheap flip-flops, "fancy" sandals, "hiking" sandals, boat shoes, and black flats. There's only so much room to dedicate to shoes when you live on a boat.

2 - My "fancy" sandals are constructed out of 100% of man-made materials. Not as nice as leather ones, but great for boat life. Leather tends to get moldy and disintegrate with the heat and humidity.

3 - My "fancy" sandals aren't really fancy. They just look marginally better than my flip-flops.

4 - These are not my feet. I wish I had nice pinky toes like the lady wearing the sandals, but mine have more of a mutant-like appearance to them.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? What's your favorite word that starts with "Z"?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!

  1. Probably about seven pair here, too, for me. For my Sweetie, the clothes horse with a shoe fetish, he probably has two dozen or so.

  2. I think I own about the same number. Most of then sneakers.

  3. I'm at approximately 7 pairs too. Congrats for completing the challenge! Now - how much Spanish do you still remember =)

    1. To be honest, I've struggled retaining any Spanish I learn :-(

  4. I have far too many zapatos and really only wear a few of them. We call the rubber ones flip-flops and they need to be replaced often because the dogs seem to love them. I'm really enjoying my slip-on tennies these days.
Now that you're done with this years challenge you can read the Zapato Power book series about a boy named Freddie Ramos who gets a pair of magic sneakers

    1. Yes, I can see how flip-flops would be a favorite for dogs. :-) Thanks for the series recommend - I'll check it out.

    1. My saving grace was that I wrote them all ahead of time. April was so busy that if I hadn't, I would have never kept up.

  6. I don't have a clue how many pairs I have. I have heels for nice occasions, a couple pair of tennis shoes, boat shoes, lots of flip flops. I'm not even a clothes horse and I have to many shoes.

Zest is my word for the day. As in food.

Have a fabulous day and week. ♥

  7. One thing I don't stint on is a good pair of shoes. I want me feets to feel comfy.

    1. Shoes are definitely something that can be worth investing in. I've made the mistake of buying cheaper shoes because they looked great, but after an hour wearing them, I regretted it.

  8. I don't actually know how many pairs of shoes I own, probably too many but I'm not someone who actively collects them. Well done for getting to Z.

  9. I haven’t done a shoe count lately. I have too many because they feel comfortable in the shop when I buy them and then I find after wearing them a few times they aren’t. I have problem feet 😟. Congrats on getting to Z!

    1. That's the problem with shoe shopping - everything feels so comfortable and looks so great in the shop, but later they don't work as well as you thought.

  10. I am all about comfort when it comes to shoes. I live in my Danskos and have a pair of Aebo sandals for summer. Basically, those are my two go-two pairs. Congrats on finishing the A to Z Challenge! Weekends In Maine

  13. Congrats on completing the challenge! I don't own very many shoes either. Black sneakers, blue runners, water shoes, Canada flip flops, black sandals, Doc Martens, and black kinda dressy ankle boots. I'd wear the sneakers with everything if I could!

    1. I'm curious what Canada flip flops are. Sneakers rule :-)

  14. Interestingly, I own more pairs of shoes than you but wear only four different pairs on a regular basis. I need to give a bunch away. There are too many cluttering the closet, and lots of them will never be worn again since I rarely wear high heels. I'm in slippers now. ~grin~ Thanks for the kind word on my blog. Be well!

    1. I could never really do high heels, unless I wanted to make a fool out of myself :-)

  15. Yay! You did it, completed a month of A-Z. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I knew some of the words already, thanks for updating my vocabulary. I don't know how many shoes I have, some in storage, and I can only wear one pair right now - misshaped, and swollen ankle still.

    1. That's a shame that you're confined to just one pair of shoes. I hope the ankle swelling goes down soon and the healing continues.

  16. Zapato was one of the first Spanish words that I learnt as a child - from my Chilean grand-mother...mia abuela.

I can't wear shoes as my feet are too swollen, although I have a velcro-fastened pair for going out in public. (But I still have about three or four old pairs in our walk-in.)

    1. Velcro-fastened shoes are a godsend. I wonder if your grandmother was teaching you to tie your shoes and that's why that was one of the earliest words you learned?

    2. Great point - it stuck...well the word did.

  17. I used to have over 170 pairs of shoes and boots. It was crazy. I started paring down for an impending move to Thailand (now on temporary hiatus). I probably have about 50 now, counting things like winter boots and sneakers.

    1. Wow, that is a lot of shoes! I think I would have more shoes if I didn't live in a summery climate. I used to love boots when I lived in places with winter weather. I had a lot of them :-)

  18. I actually knew that Spanish word (yay me!), but if you had asked me to use it in a full sentence, I never could have. Congrats on completing the challenge! BTW, I have less than 10 pairs of shoes. Pretty sure. *Going off to count.*
