N Is For "Nadar" {To Swim} | A To Z Challenge

As part of my ongoing efforts to learn Spanish, I'm highlighting a different Spanish word each day during April as part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I'm also sharing the random thoughts that pop into my head when I try to pronounce them.

* * *

Today's Spanish word is >>nadar<< (to swim). And now for some random thoughts:

1 - I used to love swimming as a child. My sister and I would spend every day in the pool during the summers.

2 - I still like swimming, but these days, I usually swim in the ocean where there are evil sea monsters like sharks and barracuda. I'd much rather have to just worry about whether I need to apply more sun screen, not whether something is going to bite me.

3 - One of the coolest places I've swum at was a blue hole in the Bahamas. It was so nice to cool off in a fresh water pool and not worry being a mid-afternoon snack for some creature.

Do you like swimming? Ever worry about something biting you? What's your favorite word that starts with "N"?

  1. I also LOVED swimming as a child. My favorite family vacation was spending an entire week at the hotel and swimming from 9:00am - 5:00pm (with the required hour break for lunch and digestion). These days, I'm not so fond of getting my hair wet :)

    1. That's what we did as well - swim all day long and had to be told to get out of the pool to eat. It was so much fun.

  2. I was a competitive swimmer in high school, a LOOOOOONG time ago LOL. Nothing ever bit me in the pool =)

  3. Who's up for a nadar? Yeah, that just sounds weird.
Not a chance I'm swimming in the ocean. Too many sharks and things that can but one's butt.

  4. I loved swimming as a child too, and my son loves to be in the water. Nowadays, I'd rather be on the water. Yet if I had the opportunity to swim in a tropical lagoon (that was safe!), I would. :)

    1. I love the idea of swimming in a tropical lagoon that's free of sea monsters. So much more relaxing than constantly being on the lookout for evil creatures.

  5. I miss swimming. We swam at my grandparents' cabin every year as it sat on the Little North Fork river. That spoiled me though. I only like clear water so most lakes are out as they are so murky.

    1. That is the problem with some lakes - the murky water is kind of creepy.

  6. I cannot swim. I know, I'm a boater. I wear a vest. It's the only was to afford some safety. I wouldn't like the critters either.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. You know, I've met a number of other boaters who don't swim. That's great that you wear a life vest.

  9. For a brief moment, I thought Ralph when I read Nadar. As to fear of what lurks under water, I have it. I like to know what's going on beneath my naked feet. Snorkle to the rescue!

  10. Oh, yes I worry something down there might bite my feet. I've been told live things may be buried in the sand & might chew my feet, so I shuffle my feet what walking in the surf.

    1. That's another one of my worries - stepping on a stingray or, worse, a lion fish. Shuffling your feet is a smart thing to do.

  11. There were summer days where we got in the pool before breakfast and got out at 10pm, only coming in once in a while to use the restroom or ask for food to be brought out. It's been a long time.

  12. I am not a great swimmer and as a child I wasn't so crazy about swimming in lakes or the ocean for fear of little fish nibbling at my legs. I do like snorkeling in the Bahamas. It's different when you can look the fishies in the eyes. Except for, maybe, the sharks and barracudas, of course.

    1. I really don't like sharks or barracudas. Some people don't seem to be bothered swimming near them. Not me.

  13. Nadar is so essential - yet I saw a young woman buying a house say she didn't want one bordering a lake because of her kids...kids old enough to swim. Health & Safety?

    1. I think learning to swim is probably a good thing for kids, even if just from a safety standpoint.

  14. I do love to swim and as a child I spent hours in the ocean. We moved further north and the ocean here is so cold that a wetsuit is needed. (I don't have one). These days I prefer to walk along the water's edge.

    1. The idea of swimming in cold water has absolutely zero appeal to me. I'd much rather go for a walk like you.
