In my ongoing efforts to learn Spanish, I'm highlighting a Spanish word each day during April as part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I'm also sharing the random thoughts that pop into my head when I try to pronounce them.
****
Today's Spanish word is >>pingüino<< (penguin). And now for some random thoughts:
1 - One of my favorite things to say in Spanish is "Soy un pingüino." It confuses people. They whisper to each other, Why is she saying she's a penguin? Do you think she's had too much wine to drink?
2 - Well, yes, it's entirely possible I've had too much wine to drink, but that's not the explanation. I say it because it's fun to say. And if you're going to try to learn another language, it's better to have a few giggles along the way.
3 - Penguins like the cold. If you're thinking of adopting any, make sure you keep them in the fridge. They'll be happier there.

Do you like penguins? Would you like to be a penguin? What's your favorite word that starts with "P"?
Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!
Check out the other folks participating in this year's Blogging from A to Z Challenge.
I like penguins. I got attached to them back in the day with the comic Bloom County and Opus the penguin.
ReplyDeleteI know one other word that begins with P and it's not a nice one. LOL
I had forgotten about Bloom County - good reminder!
DeleteI think I know that word too. :-)
I do like penguins. They are cute, but I don't want to be one. I like what I am.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "P" word. Potatoes, pasta and popcorn. I think I need some breakfast. I seem to be hungry.
Have a fabulous day. ♥
Those are excellent P words. Now I'm hungry :-)
DeleteYou are a delight. ~grin~ Anita Blake from the "Vampire Hunter" series adored penguins. She slept in a penguin decorated sleep shirt with her stuffed penguin Sigmund. That was the one adorable soft side her closest loved ones saw on a regular basis. I think peaches is my favorite P word in the moment. It reminds me of my favorite OC's backside. ~grin~ Be well!
ReplyDeleteYour "P" word is adorable. I think I'd like a penguin sleep shirt too.
DeleteI missed a few days (not sure how that happened . . . isn't it Monday?). But I'm back on track with a few random thoughts of my own: I blame the movie Jaws for my dislike of swimming in dark waters (everything was fine until then). One of my greatest dreams is to one day wear clothes that don't smell like a boat. And I am the walrus. Goo goo g'joob. :-)
ReplyDeleteI went to pay our marina fees this year in cash and had to apologise because the money was slightly damp reeked of boat - boat smell is bad.
Deletehehehe. Right keeping them in the fridge is good for them... right?
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
Absolutely - they love the cold :-)
DeleteIs that a pingüino in your freezer or are you just happy...? I'll stop there.
ReplyDeleteYes, stop there, that would be a smart move :-)
DeletePenguins are fun! - at least the fictional ones are; I've never met a real one. Maybe I'll visit just to have a peek in your fridge. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's actually my mom's fridge :-)
DeleteAw. I love pinguinos!
ReplyDeleteThey are awesome, aren't they?
DeleteI like penguins, but I prefer puffins!
ReplyDeletePuffins are adorable!
DeletePenguins are beautiful, and i agree it is fun to say "Soy un pinguino".
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how much fun it is to say.
DeleteI adore Penguins. They look so formal! My favorite P word is Pina Colada!
ReplyDeleteExcellent "P" word - now I'm thirsty :-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a cute post! I can almost hear your giggles. I do like them. They are a bit stinky though but super fun to watch. I love Peonies. Pink Peonies. The word and image reminds Me of my beloved grandma :)
I love peonies too! We used to have some back in the days when we had a yard and a house. They are such gorgeous flowers.
DeleteLast night, while mindlessly scrolling through FaceBook (*sigh) ... I found a place here in Kansas (of all places) where we can swim with penguins! I can't imagine anything more fun on a hot summer day. I'm hoping to make that a reality this year.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow - I bet that would be a really cool experience. You'll have to blog about it.
DeletePenguins have happy feet and amazing journeys, so I love them - but not the cold.
ReplyDeletehttps://rolandclarke.com/2018/04/18/p-is-for-perfect-world/
I don't like the cold either.
DeleteGreat word - I'm adding it to my vocabulary, too. Have you read Mr. Popper's Penguins?
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't, but I can tell just from the title that I'd probably like it.
DeleteI just went to check the weather and found the closest city to our little slice of nowhere is Polvadera. This P word in Spanish means "cloud of dust." The wind is blowing strong here, but luckily we are just parked on rocks (no dust).
ReplyDeleteJust you wait - you will be in Latin America someday and due to some bizarre crazy circumstance, you are going to need to say, "Soy un pingüino!" - just like that math you never thought you ever use.
