Every Sailor's Worst Nigthmare | Wordless Wednesday
Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:
1 - Every sailor's worst nightmare is hitting a reef. This has happened to people we know. Fortunately, it's never happened to us. But, as we know, fortune is a fickle thing.
2 - We saw this shipwreck at the West End settlement in the Bahamas. There's a reef around here which you need to be very careful of. But even if you're careful, weather, engine failure, an issue with your sail, and other unforeseen issues can cause something tragic like this to happen.
3 - It's always sad to see something like this. It leaves me wondering about the story behind the wreck. What happened? Was everyone okay? Did they quit sailing after this incident or did they get another boat?
What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

For you, it would be like your house getting in a traffic accident.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought - is anyone going to clean that up?
My first thought was is everyone okay. Then can you save the boat and if you can how much will it cost to restore.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe Wordless Wednesday, Ellen. ♥
An emotional pic if I've ever seen one. Hope everyone is okay.
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
oh no! I'd be worried the people made if off safely.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that I hoped the people on it were okay.
ReplyDeleteThat would be awful. It's a good reminder that a bad day can sometimes be a very bad day. That can't be an easy situation to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing i think is, oops. Then, i hope everyone was safe and they will be able to sail again if they want.
ReplyDeleteSad, very sad. :(
ReplyDeleteThat looks like an awful big boat. I met some people who hit a reef in the Bahamas once. They said that Basra's first concern was pulling the boat off the reef so that it didn't cause more damage. It sounded like quite an harrowing ordeal. They were rescued, of course, allowed to salvage what they could off the boat and then their insurance company sank the boat. When they got back to the States they bought a new boat and went sailing again.
ReplyDeleteI met another guy - a 74 year old man who went up on a reef off the coast of Belize. He had to swim ashore.
I bet it was terribly scary for the poor owners of this boat but hopefully they were utilizing all of their safety equipment when it happened and didn't have to swim ashore. Wonder if they'll buy another boat?
How awful! I'd wonder about the people first, and then the horrible clean up involved.
ReplyDeleteThat is heartbreaking. Thank you for the virtual hug. It means a lot. I hope Tickety Boo is seaworthy very soon!
ReplyDeleteScary! And sad. Do they typically leave wrecks out there until they shift and sink, or do they get taken care of?
ReplyDeleteIt would be awful to lose a boat like that, but the first things I thought about when I saw the picture were... who was on that boat, and is everyone okay?
