M Is For March In Numbers

Scamper at Flamingo in the Everglades National Park
During April, we're participating in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. Every day (except Sundays), we’ll be doing an alphabet themed post starting with “A is for Adventurous” and ending with “Z is for Zinc”. We've got a theme for every letter sorted except for Y. If you have any ideas for the letter Y, please leave a comment or email.

Like we did for January and February, here’s a little recap of last month in numbers. We spent the entire month in Florida. We drove into Florida in mid-January and we still haven’t left. Who would have thought we would be here so long? Despite the cost, crowds and traffic nightmares, Florida has a lot going for it – notably the sunshine and the warmth. That might explain why we haven’t left yet.

  • 7 - Number of different places we camped at including some boondocking spots, the Miccosukee Casino near Miami, Curry Hammock State Park in the Keys, Flamingo in the Everglades, and Manatee Hammock in Titusville, Walmart in Stuart.
  • $13.69 – Our average camping cost per night. A pretty decent decrease from February ($23 a night), due in large part to the number of days we camped for free.
  • 17 - Number of nights we camped for free.
  • $10.89 – Our average camping cost per night if you take our winnings at the Miccosukee Casino as a credit. Basically they paid us to camp overnight in their parking lot – see here for the scoop on how gambling paid off!
  • 3 – The number of times we ate barbeque at JR’s Saloon in Indiantown. Decent prices, big portions and mighty tasty!
  • $258 – The amount we spent on gas.
  • 1 – The number of new car batteries we had to purchase. My mom thinks our Pathfinder’s battery died because it is jealous of all the attention we pay to Scamper, our travel trailer. We’re always talking about Scamper in our blog, but rarely mention our Pathfinder. Well, hopefully, the $107 we spent a new battery will prove to our Pathfinder that we lover her too.
  • 1 – The number of rocket launches we saw at Manatee Hammock campground in Titusville.
  • Countless - The number of bug bites we got during March, mostly camping at Flamingo in the Everglades.
  • 2 - Number of bloggy pals we met in the real world. After getting to know them on their blog, we finally met Deborah and Keith from Wright Away, Sails Away in person. They're a fabulous couple and Deborah makes the most amazing brownies you've ever tasted. We're going to have to follow them down to the Bahamas just to get some more of these chocolaty treats. Stalking is okay if has to do with chocolate, right?
  • Unknown – Like in previous months, I continue to prove to be hopeless when it comes to recording our mileage. I have absolutely no idea how many miles we drove during March.
  • 8 – The number of Reese’s cups I ate during March. I tried to buy some more Oreo cookies to satisfy my need for chocolate, but Scott somehow convinced me that we would be better off without them. He was wrong. I blame him for eating all of those Reese’s cups. If we had had Oreo cookies on hand, this wouldn’t have had to happen.
For our new followers (thanks for joining us!), here's three of our favorite posts during March that you may have missed:

Alligators Scare the Crap Out of Me!
Going for a Walk: Key West, Florida
On the Art of Being a Slug

Hope everyone had a wonderful March and is having an even more fabulous April!

    1. Isn't Auckland one of the most expensive cities in the world? I remember when we moved from the UK to NZ that we thought it would be a lot cheaper. We were wrong - I couldn't believe how much everything cost in NZ. But I guess when you're an island nation and have to import so much, costs will be high.

  2. This month-in-numbers concept does a great job of providing a snapshot of what life on the RVing road is like. Loved it! (Go get those Oreo cookies. Seriously. No one should be kept away from Oreo cookies.)

    1. It's surprising how busy things get for two people who aren't working and just out traveling and playing! But this is busy in a good way not like work busy :-)

  5. My dad is on his way to Florida in his RV. Well, he's probably there by now. I guess it's a popular travel destination. Well, why wouldn't it be?

    1. How cool for your dad! Is he going to travel around Florida or settle down in a particular spot for a period of time?
