October In Numbers

Clockwise from upper left: (1) Early voting; (2) Creative Halloween potluck dish - a zombie made out of meatloaf and bacon; (3) Breakdown #1; (4) Breakdown #2; (5) Some of the Indiantown ladies in their awesome costumes; and (6) Yes, it's still hot in Florida and everyone is wearing sandals or flip-flops of some sort.

Cruising season is just around the bend with the end of hurricane season coming up on November 30th. People are starting to come back to the marina to get their boats ready to head on out sailing in Florida, the Bahamas, and beyond. Boat projects are in full swing on s/v Tickety Boo, along with plenty of fun social events to distract ourselves from all the money, time, sweat, and tears everyone is pouring into their boats.

Now, without further ado, here are some of the random things that happened at the marina last month in numbers:

  • 6 - Number of books I read during October. 2 writing-related, 1 cozy mystery, 1 graphic novel, 1 literary fiction, and Deb Akey's lovely book, >>The Essence<< (read my review here).
  • 2 - Number of times our Nissan Pathfinder broke down. Thanks goodness for wonderful friends who helped us out with the loan of their car, giving us a ride back to the marina, and helping tow our car off to the side of the road. There was also a very kind stranger who stopped by the side of the road and gave Scott a ride back to the marina the second time that the car broke down.
  • 2 - Number of Nissan Pathfinders with Oregon plates in Indiantown. (Our boat neighbor has the other one).
  • 3 - Number of potlucks. Good food, good company and, at the Halloween potluck, good costumes.
  • 2 - Number of sailboats on the cover of my latest cozy mystery, Bodies in the Boatyard. A good chunk of last month was spent prepping for the release on November 19th.
  • 16 - Number of mini-chocolate chips I've been putting into my morning oatmeal lately, along with a spoonful of peanut butter. It's like have a giant cookie for breakfast.
  • 1 - Number of tree frogs that live in the cockpit of our boat. We call him Freddy.
  •  0 - Number of interesting things I have left to say about the past month.

In case you missed them, here are some of our favorite posts from last month both here and on my author blog:

  1. OK, obviously a bad blog reader here (or, I need help with comprehension)...but Scott is back! Yay! Where are you going cruising this year? My only goal is to get to Tiny's bar, Salt Pond, Long Island on the next boat. I'll treat you to the best rum punches if you meet us there!

    1. He's back! Which means vacation is over and boat projects are in full swing. We're planning on heading to the Bahamas this year. We're going to only do the essential boat projects before we head off, spend a few months there and then head back to the States to haul out, do the bottom and other projects. We'll meet you on Long Island :-) We definitely want to get further south this year. We tried to get to Long Island last time, but the weather wasn't in our favor. Are you guys just going to stick in the Bahamas or heading further afield?

    2. That sounds awesome Oh man, we don't have any plans for next summer yet. Maybe we'll wind up in Indiantown :-)

    3. We're not sure where we'll spend hurricane season this year. If we come back to Indiantown, you guys should join :-)

  2. It will be good not to worry about hurricanes until next summer. We are having so many fire here that you can't see the sun most of the time. Really bad air.

I'll be ordering your book shortly.

Have a fabulous day, Ellen. ♥

    1. There's currently a disturbance in the Atlantic although it shouldn't turn into anything too horrible. Fingers crossed that's the last one until the end of November.

    1. Car trouble is the worst especially when you're dependent on it to get to work etc.

  4. 2 seems to be your magical number this past month...although the car breakdowns really didn't need to happen. Hope that was the end of that for awhile!

  6. Hi. Just wondering, does your little tree frog buddy go with on your sailing adventures. Blessings from South Africa, Geoff.

  7. I may have to try that oatmeal recipe, I normally don't put anything in mine.

  8. Gee, if you add a boat to each of your subsequent book covers, book #25 is gonna be some kinda crowded!

Sorry about the car breakdowns, but it's good you had some good Samaritans around to help you out.

  10. You made me giggle. We use absentee ballots to vote early. It's nice to take time looking up people and issues on line at our convenience and not wait in any sort of line. Be well!

  11. So sorry about the car. Glad we didn't drive it to Cabbagetown.

Love my mini chocolate chips. Sometimes I just pour a pile into my hand and eat them one by one - surprisingly a whole bag goes pretty quick like that.
