Hey, We Know Them! Drinks & Memories At Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar
One of the places we really wanted to show our friend in the Bahamas, was Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar in Green Turtle Cay. We had been there on our first trip to the Bahamas in 2015 with some mutual friends and enjoyed the atmosphere, people, and, more importantly, their world famous Goombay Smash.
After walking around the settlement in the heat, dripping with sweat, and having worked up a considerable thirst, we were excited to see the entryway to Miss Emily's.
The place was exactly the same as I remembered. T-shirts, boat cards, business cards, even money, tacked up on the walls and ceiling by visitors.
Here's our friend enjoying his Goombay Smash.
He appears to be a bit camera shy. I can't say that I blame him. That's what I do when anyone tries to take my pictures. Unless, of course, I've had more than one Goombay Smash. Then, I'll start posing for them. The drinks are pretty strong. One will do me in. Two will make me even more silly than I normally am. You really don't want to see what would happen after three.
For the record, I only had one Goombay Smash on this visit.
As I wandered around checking out the boat cards, I saw a very familiar one. Our friends, Doug and Tina, from s/v Amazed left their card in 2017 when they were enjoying their own Goombay Smashes. I wonder how many they had.
Oh, I should mention the other name on the card, Chloe. She's their super adorable, super enthusiastic, and super talented coconut husking chocolate Labrador retriever. She (along with some other boat dogs I know) is going to be featured in my upcoming cozy mystery, Poisoned by the Pier. I had so much fun working in dogs that I know into this book. :)
Have you ever been someplace and found something that someone you know left behind?

Cool you found there card. Did you leave your own?
ReplyDeleteOne of those drinks would've done me in.
They are potent :) No, we never did leave our boat card. I didn't have one with me at the time.
DeleteHow fun. I'm sure I'd be pretty darn loopy after two of those drinks.
ReplyDeleteMe too :)
DeleteI've not done that, but I've ran into folks that I know and were many miles from home. That's always a treat.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week, Ellen. ♥
That's always a fun surprise :)
DeleteA Goombay Smash certainly looks challenging! I had to look it up, I was intrigued.
ReplyDeleteThey're delicious which is part of the problem. You guzzle it down before you realize the effects.
DeleteWe always run into people we know, no matter where we go. It became a joke growing up that Grandpa, as a doctor, could not go anywhere without meeting up with at least one patient on the trip.
ReplyDeleteYour poor grandfather - never could get away from work :)
DeleteThat looks like a wonderful place! I think one Goombay Smash would be enough for me. Maybe two?
ReplyDeleteIt's a really fun place. I'm glad we got to see it again.
DeleteHi Ellen.
ReplyDeleteNice post and welcome back from the Bahamas.
Most of my pleasant surprises I get are from watching a movie I had something to do with and remembering the crew I worked with.
The bar looks so friendly and festive, I'm sure I would have a great time there. It looks like a real sailors spot.
Blessings from Geoff in South Africa.
I think you would like that bar too. It's such a great place to connect with other sailors.
DeleteThat is such a fun place! And a coconut husking dog? Now that's talent!
ReplyDeleteShe is very talented :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful place! I love the front entrance.
ReplyDeleteWhat's in a Goombay Smash?
Rum. Lots and lots of rum. Plus some other stuff :)
DeleteThose drinks look and sound good! I love how you incorporated real dogs into your last book.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking by Miss Emily’s Blue Bee Bar on Green Turtle in 2008. The sign still looks the same! But, we never went inside. Those days, we were even more frugal than now. As a matter of fact, our months in the Bahamas went into history as our cheapest months ever. :-)
