Wordless Wenesday | Lawn Bowling In Scotland

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:

1 - I've never played lawn bowls. It's probably for the best. Someone would likely get hurt. Let's just say when it comes to tossing around balls, they never end up where they're supposed to be.

2 - I wish I had tried it though when we lived in Scotland.

3 - We did play in a curling league for a while, which is popular in Scotland. Again, probably not a good idea to let me loose with a really heavy curling stone and have me chuck it down the ice in the general vicinity of other people.

What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

  1. I've never played lawn bowling, either. I did like playing crochet, though. We used to play every time we visited my in-laws when the children were young. My FIL would get out to play with us, too. It was great family fun. Fabulous photo captures, especially the last one - love it!

  3. I've never tried it either.
Maybe you should chuck a bowling ball at Simon next time he appears?

    1. It'd probably me more like the other way around - Simon would chuck one at me.

  5. Old people. That's who plays this mostly. It's Bocci ball here. It's old people. I could play because I'm old.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ☺

    1. I wonder how popular lawn bowling is with the younger crowd.

  6. I'm pretty sure you'd be a star on the curling front if you could toss those stones that easily. Just sayin' :-)

  7. Curling is huge in Fairbanks, where we used to live. The local teams are in the Olympic tryouts.

  9. Visited Scotland earlier this year, including Glasgow. Didn't try lawn bowling and there was no ice around for curling.

    1. There's a curling rink near Glasgow, can't remember exactly where, that we used to go to. Did you enjoy Glasgow?

  11. I'd just have to make sure the lawn was very free when I bowled. My husband loves to watch curling...one of his favorite Olympic sports to watch on TV. I'm already impressed they don't slip and fall everywhere.

  12. This makes me think of my father, actually, though golf is his game. I'm like you - dangerous when it comes to sports. Be well!

  13. My father and his family were all from Scotland, but I never knew they played lawn bowling there. I've always associated it with the Italians. Cool!

  14. It brings the word Kelvingrove to mind because that’s exactly where it is! I’ve never tried lawn bowls either, though I once had a colleague who was very keen. I’d be a danger (apart from not remotely getting the appeal).

  15. So jealous that you lived in Scotland! It's at the top of my bucket list.

    What was it like?
