Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:
1 - I love looking at maps and nautical charts and daydreaming about traveling to exotic destinations.
2 - When we're in the car, my job is Chief Navigator. I'm not very good at it. Probably because I can't tell my left from my right. I have to physically turn the map around in my hands to try to figure out which way is which.
3 - Why yes, our car is really old and we don't have a built-in GPS navigator thingamajig. So we rely on my map-reading abilities. Let's just say that we would be wise to leave early for our destinations so that we can factor turning around time.

We have GPS in our vehicles and that makes maps unnecessary. I can remember having tons of maps in our cars. Went to AAA to get whatever map was needed for a trip. Fond memories.
ReplyDeleteOn the boat we don't depend on just one map. We have several things we use to plot our course.

I have to use my phone as a map, which I suppose is the same as the car GPS. I tried to have my husband play navigator for me once... didn't work out so well. :)
ReplyDeleteWe use Google Maps on our phone, but I still like to go to Mapquest and print out a map marking the exact route.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has NO sense of direction. I'm always the navigator and I usually know where I'm at. In NC, you could drop me anywhere in the state and within minutes I'd find the way home.
I've made maps for my fantasy stories. So helpful in the real world too. hehehe

I like the quotes! I turn maps round too and still get it wrong. In fact, I get lost with GPS too.

ReplyDeleteI remember wrangling with paper maps in the car - it was fun, sometimes.
Maps can be such fun, and in our family, the passenger says, "Make a my way turn" for turning right (meaning in the direction of the passenger) and "Make a your way turn" for a turn to the left (meaning in the direction of the driver).
ReplyDeleteI definitely DON'T do maps! When google maps came out on smart phones, I acquiesced to helping with land navigation, and of course onboard, we have chart plotters, and redundant systems on computers. I'n not a paper pusher.
ReplyDeleteI do almost all the driving here. It's probably good, too, as I'm a better driver than map reader. ~grin~ Though, of course, our Blue Meanie is a 2017 Volt and has turn-by-turn directions via the Onstar service. We pay extra, but my husband appreciates the many benefits. Be well!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby's always been a map guy, but he's learned (begrudgingly) to appreciate GPS. Me? I could probably manage to get lost either way.
ReplyDeleteI am the navigator and I hate it. I also don't know my right from my left and no one in my house understands how that can be a thing!
ReplyDeletelol I always have to turn the map so that left and right make sense! We have a satnav for the car but I still like to have a map book handy in case.
