Wordless Wednesday | Evil Popsicle Sticks

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:

1 - The thought of popsicle sticks makes me shudder and break out into a cold sweat. I freak out at the thought of putting wooden sticks in my mouth, whether that be a popsicle stick, chopsticks, or a bamboo skewer.

2 - Thanks to the trusty internet, I've self diagnosed myself. I have xylophobia. No, that's not the fear of xylophones, it's the fear of wooden objects. Don't believe me? See for yourself here. Fortunately, my phobia is limited to evil popsicle sticks and their cousins. I can happily touch wooden objects and hug trees.

3 - No, that doesn't stop me from eating a popsicle or an ice cream bar. I just eat around the edges and leave the middle part untouched. Bonus: you save calories that way.

What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

  1. That's a unique phobia. You could always scrape the popsicle into a bowl.

  2. I had no idea there was such an ailment. Very interesting, but you are saving the calories. You can make up the difference by having more chocolate though.

I could have used a couple of those yesterday. It was 104 here.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Ellen. ♥

    1. I'd like to think this phobia is great for my diet, but you know me too well - I make up for it with chocolate.

  3. Those frozen treats say SUMMER IS HERE! I don't like the wooden sticks either, the texture after the ice cream is icky.

  4. Well that is a different something to have. I have never heard of that either. But a good way to eat popcicles. Have a good day.

    1. I hadn't known it had a name until recently. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

  5. That is interesting. I saw this post on my twitter feed, and I wondered ...
I actually like Popsicle sticks - sorry, but it's true. I can definitely see where not eating the middle would work.

  6. I used to all but gnaw on my sticks. Don't like toothpicks in my mouth though.

  7. Just the thought of them makes my teeth hurt. LOL. As a kid, I'd push them off into a bowl. Now, I'm really good at doing like you said, nibbling around the stick.

  8. I have never been bothered by any of these things, but I don’t like the wooden forks that are starting to replace plastic ones. Not sure why I don’t like them, but don’t mind chopsticks. I am a contrary creature.

    1. I don't think it's all that common otherwise they wouldn't sell many Popsicles :)

  11. I learned something new today. I love popsicles and have no problem with the sticks. The strawberry popsicles look so good and refreshing.

  12. Woa I didn't know that before. But well thankfully there are a lot of other options to enjoy an ice cream

  13. I hadn't heard of that phobia before, but everyone has their own quirks. It's what makes us so interesting. I'm not a popsicle fan. I hate the way it drips down the stick or often breaks in half when getting closer to the stick.

    1. You have to eat them fast in the hot weather to avoid that dripping :)

  14. Since they've actually given the phobia a name, lots more people must have a thing about Popsicle sticks, so at least you know you aren't alone. Huh! Learn something new every day...

  15. Glad you can touch wooden things. I'd hate to have a problem with touching wood - I don't really care about popsicles one way or the other but I probably have an unnatural attraction to wooden cooking spoons. I love wooden spoons and am especially appalled when I pet sit in a home that doesn't have any.

  16. It reminds me of cold summer treats, and i wonder if you could take the popsicle off the stick and eat it that way.

  17. Mmm, could do with one of those. Never had a problem with ice lolly sticks (to give them their correct British name!) It's quite common for people to not like ice cream or lollies because it's too cold on their teeth, but the stick is a different matter. I can see how the texture would seem strange - we don't normally have wooden objects in our mouth! The sticks are fun though - you can use them in arts and crafts, and I even remember when they used to be entertainment. You'd get a little joke printed on the stick. I don't know if that's still a thing, or if it ever was in America.
