The Big White Shoes Debate

I was at a barbecue last night and we were talking about the no-white after Labor Day rule. I remember this being such a big deal when I was younger and having to say goodbye to my white shoes at the end of each summer. Is this still a big deal? Do you wear white shoes or any white clothing after summer is over?

For those of you who are celebrating Labor Day today, I hope you have a wonderful time free of work and full of good weather. If it's just an ordinary Monday for you, I hope it's an awesome start to the week.

What fashion rules do you swear by? What fashion rules do you think are outdated?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!

  1. I remember that rule, too, from when I was younger. Now, I rarely wear white anyway, unless it's a t-shirt. :)

    1. Glad I'm not the only one that remembers that rule :-)

  2. Fortunately I don't have to abide by that rule as no labour day for us. I'll still be wearing my white sandals while the weather permits.

  3. Fashion statement? I do what I want and at my age no one even says a thing. I used to go by these things, but no more.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  4. I’d never heard of this rule and I don’t think we have any equivalent. In any case, i’m way beyond considering fashion rules (even if I knew what they currently are)!

    1. I'm so out of touch with fashion these days that I have no idea what the rules are either.

  5. With as many kids and cats as i've always had, white was a hazard at all times in any form -- it would be dirty before i could even get it put on properly.

My fashion sense is jeans and a t-shirt for work, jeans and a polo with the church logo on it for Sunday when i do volunteer work at the church, and house dresses for when i'm off duty in summer. Winter off-duty is jeans and sweaters.

Yes, i own two dresses, which each get worn about once a year. Fashion is not my long suit.

    1. White is the worst when it comes to pet hair - no hiding it :-)

  6. Yes, I remember that rule, and I still catch myself glancing at my shoes even though I have broke it a few times. I did tell my kids about it...more so they know what the rules once were than to really follow them. Part of me wishes people still held things like this because it did add a sense of something which seems to be missing more and more these days.

    1. It was a real marker of summer ending - kind of a ritual, which was nice in a way.

  7. I would assume....as I grew up in south Florida, that perhaps this 'No White After Labor Day' rule came into being as snow and mud would shortly ensue?

I don't think it has ever really applied down here.
I never even heard of it until I was in my twenties.

    Happy Labor Day!

  8. This is the first time I'm reading about this no white rule on the internet.

  9. ... wear white shoes? All my shoes are black, so I'm good. :) I think these days no one pays attention to that fashion rule anymore, and I have no idea any other rules... as I type this wearing Captain America pajama bottoms and a T-Rex t-shirt.

  10. Why? Is it religious thing? A status thing? or just to prevent muddy shoes? All I can say is in the UK in the 80's, white stilletto's were considered extremely naff.

    1. I'm not sure what the origins are. Sounds like a perfect excuse for procrastination today researching it :-)

  11. Sure, I've heard of this so-called rule, but I never followed it as a kid, so why do it now? With the weather as unpredictable as it is, I wear whatever's comfortable, no matter what the calendar says. As you well now, shorts and sandals, whatever their color, are much more appropriate in the South in the middle of December as wool pants, a sweater, and sensible shoes. (Whatever THEY are... my shoes have never had a lick of sense.)

    1. I think wearing what's comfortable is the best rule of them all.

  12. I'm fairly sure I don't wear any white clothes, ever, under any circumstances. I'm just not coordinated and graceful enough to get through the day without spilling something.

  13. I'm with Karen. And white shoes are impossible to keep clean except maybe for some sneakers, though mine are grey. lol The other day I had on a deep blue shirt and managed to spill something that threatened to stain. ~sigh~ Love the newest post, by the way. I wish our old cats enjoyed catnip like they used to. Happy Writing!

  23. You are looking for something quick and convenient when you want to transfer a critical patient from one place to another. Something that would make sure that the situation is being taken care of, without any delay. This is where Chennai air ambulance service cost come into the picture, and they seem to be the only option available when it comes to moving patients from one place to another

  24. I'm impressed, I must say. Actually rarely can i encounter a blog that's both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you could have hit the nail about the head. Your idea is outstanding; the thing is something that too few individuals are speaking intelligently about. We are delighted that we came across this around my try to find some thing with this.메이저사이트
