In my ongoing efforts to learn Spanish, I'm highlighting a different Spanish word each day during April as part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I'm also sharing the random thoughts that through my head as I try to pronounce them.
***
Today's Spanish word is >>oloroso<< (odorous). And now for today's random thoughts:
1 - Boats can be stinky. It usually has something to do with the head (bathroom). We have a marine toilet on board. When we flush it, the waste goes into a holding tank, or, as I like to call it, the >>PPB<<. I'll let you see if you can figure that one out.
2 - If you live in an RV or on boat, this will be nothing new for you. But if you live on land, just take a minute to contemplate the thought of having your waste in a box near your bedroom. Gross, huh?
3 - Things can get smelly when the joker valve needs to be changed, the odor seeps through your hoses, or something goes terribly wrong with your holding tank.
4 - Did you know that they make air freshener which smells like vanilla frosting?
5 - If you haven't figured out what >>PPB<< stands for and/or want a little tour of our head and details on our waste management system, click here. You'll find more pictures there, like the one below.
Does your home/boat/RV ever stink? What do you do to get rid of the odor? Like the fishies hanging in our bathroom / head?

We have stuff we put in the blackwater tank in our RV that helps keep the smell down, plus we dump it frequently, so usually we don't have a problem. Love your fishies!

We've got some of that stuff too. I think it helps to some extent.
DeleteYour fish are a very nice decorative touch, and our house smells like cats no matter how hard we try. It is what it is.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty cute, aren't they :-) Yeah, you really can't get rid of that pet smell, but they're worth it.
DeleteI like your fish! Very cute. We had campers when I was growing up and this is one of the reasons I never wanted one. ~grin~ SO and I would rather just set up a tent, though that hasn't happened in years. Meanwhile, my father is on his way to visit us from Florida in his mini Winnebago that a FL neighbor termed his 'little red suitcase'. Hahahaha... Be well!
ReplyDeleteA mini Winnebago - how fun!
DeleteI live in a house and our bathroom is still a stink producer. ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, but that's probably because you live with all those boys :-)
DeleteI was expecting something about sherry when I saw your title! I always supposed Oloroso Sherry came from a place called Oloroso. Doh! Then I thought, surely they wouldn’t call sherry odorous? However, Wikipedia defines it in sherry terms as scented. Much more pleasant …
ReplyDeleteSherry sounds much nicer!
DeleteNo ours doesn't smell. We have a Purasan hold and treat that has a filter. It works very well and no odor at all. Can't say that with our old system though. Nothing worse than that smell.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Ellen. ♥
I know some people how have a system like that and love it.
DeleteWhen you're out on the ocean, would anyone really know if you peed in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteNo, they wouldn't. In many places you discharge directly. They don't have facilities to deal with pumping out or treatment.
DeleteI have come across some stinky places- mainly public places. But this word was new to me!
ReplyDeleteIt was a new word for me too :-)
DeleteI have been experimenting with solutions to put in the toilet in our caravan. A mixture of Nappy San, washup detergent, eucalyptus oil and warm water is an economical treatment. Even so it has to be emptied every three days. I figure after all the nappies I’ve changed that emptying a porta potti is no big deal.
ReplyDeleteThe eucalyptus oil sounds interesting. I guess if you've changed lots of diapers, then you'd be well used to it :-)
DeleteBTW, when I click on your profile, I don't get a link to a blog (if you have one). Wanted to pop by and say hi.
Smells disguise each other. Something fishy?
ReplyDeleteThat's funny :-)
