Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:
1 - I don't think I'd want to work in a barbed wire manufacturing plant. Sounds painful.
2 - In the movies, they always make it look so easy to jump over barbed wire fences. Just casually toss your jacket or sweatshirt on top of the barbed wire to protect your hands and effortlessly hop over. If I tried that, I would need a lot of bandaids.
3 - Did you know that there's a Barbed Wire Museum in Kansas? It has dioramas. I love dioramas. I love anything miniature. Except for chocolate bars. Those should be supersized.

DeleteI really just laughed out loud by your statement, "I love anything miniature. Except chocolate bars..." LOL! That's great! I like it.
ReplyDeleteBarbed wire, to me, has always been a weird sight because I always think back to my early exposures to it, which was in the movies. I find it a bit unsettling when I see barbed wire in a urban areas because the amount of wire used often resembles the amount used on prison fences and I start to wonder what they are trying to keep in or keep out...

DeleteI hate barbed wire, but it is used a lot here in the south. Mostly to keep cattle in, because cattle love to slip out of the fence and walk out on to the highway. So it serves it's purpose, but still, I have been hung up on barb wire more times than I care to remember. Painful! This picture is confusing because it doesn't look like the barbed wire fence belongs there. Like someone just threw it up there or it fell over.

ReplyDeleteI was raised on a dairy farm so barbed wire was part of life. You can hurt yourself with this stuff very easily. I've got priors.

DeleteBarbed wire is an interesting thing. I remember staying at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, and there was barbed wire at the top of the fence. It wasn't there to keep the orphanage kids in, but the street kids out.

DeleteI'm not really into Zombie apocalypse movies, but because of where the barbed where is resting up against the "house" or building, I immediately thought - wow, they are trying to keep something out, maybe zombies. :)
ReplyDeleteBarbed wire - I have climbed through a few fences with barbed wire and ruined a few shirts and jeans that way - at my grandpa's house.

DeleteAll those years living in Kansas and I totally missed the barbed wire museum -- the town even holds a festival in May. I'm definitely putting it on my list of attractions for the next trip. Okay, probably not. But only because the world's largest hand dug well is closer to home and we haven't seen that yet. ;-)

DeleteI did not know about the barbed wire museum, but I have seen a barbed wire collection in a museum elsewhere: I think maybe Cedar City, Utah. It was … interesting.

DeleteI like that picture! That museum sounds like something I've seen on 'Mysteries at the Museum', perhaps. I like miniature stuff, too. ~grin~ Thank you for the kind word regarding our niece. We got to watch her in a muscle relaxant induced sleep for a while this afternoon, much less of an emotional drain. Will probably visit again on Friday and take tomorrow off since I have to drive a good way for my concert as it is. Be well!

DeleteThat's an interesting picture. It's not readily apparent why that barbed wire is there, but seeing it is creepy. It speaks of oppression to me.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, the property lines running through the woods near my grandmother's house were marked with barbed wire, which got all covered over with weeds and vines. I had many run-ins with those miserable wire dividers. Can't say that I miss that experience...

DeleteI guess if you wear thick-soled shoes, you could climb over barbed wire. My worst experience with barbed wire was when it was electrified. The shock when touching it, was quite the shock!

DeleteI love dioramas too! They have this great diorama in Tombstone. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures of it. They have this whole presentation with it where they spotlight certain sections of it and Vincent Price narrates. They are real proud of the Vincent Price narration, but I imagine there will come a time soon when people will go, huh? Vince who? In the history museum in Tombstone they had lots of examples of different kinds of barbed wire. I took pictures of all of it - imagining us traveling around the Southwest identifying all the different types - but we didn't do thst.
ReplyDeleteYou should make a diorama of your van camped out at different sites. That would be so cool. You'd have to make a tiny Bob though with an even tinier sombrerito.
