Life Lately At Indiantown Marina

This is what life looks like lately at Indiantown Marina for me.

I'm knee deep in wading through beta reader feedback and making the final revisions to >>Murder at the Marina<< before I send it to the editor on Monday. This round of editing is taking way longer than I thought it would, but I've learned heaps in the process.

When I need a bit of a break from editing, I've been looking through my Boat Galley cookbook for recipe ideas.

No, I'm not looking for bread recipes. I'm on the hunt for a fabulous canned meat recipe. Yes, you read that right - canned meat. One of the essential provisions to have on board your boat if you're a non-vegetarian cruiser. We're having a canned meat cook-off this weekend and I want to experiment with a new recipe. Who knows, maybe I'll be just crazy enough to try something with Spam.

And in other news, winter appears to be over in southern Florida (at least for now).

When the real feel temperature hit 89 yesterday, I broke down and plugged in our air conditioning unit. I do feel a little guilty basking in air conditioning, while much of the rest of the northern hemisphere is still battling snow, but I have to say, it beats wearing three pairs of socks.

What's life been lately where you are? Any good canned meat recipes to share?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - we'd love for you to pop by and say hi!

  1. Still very much winter here.
Good luck with revisions and your spam. At least it's not the email kind.

    1. The spam turned out surprisingly well. More details on that on Friday :-)

  2. Wow! 89! That's hot for February. I'm afraid of canning. I know it's fine if you do it right, but I just don't trust myself!

    1. I'm afraid of canning and poisoning someone. I'd much rather buy food someone else has canned, so I can blame then if things go terribly wrong :-)

  3. Life here has been busy. We're in the process of signing with a broker that will actually take the time to show the boat (yep, you read that right). But the real question is, is there such a thing as a "fabulous canned meat recipe"?

    1. Why is selling a boat such a nightmare? Actually, the things people made were surprisingly tasty.

  4. We've been having temps in the low 70s of late. That will change tomorrow. We are on a yacht club cruise this weekend, so all is good in our world.

Have a fabulous day, Ellen. ♥

    1. I hope you had fun on your yacht club cruise! Temps in the 70s sounds ideal.

  5. We had an 6 point earthquake this morning. Made me dizzy, then it made me grateful for all the good weather I take for granted. The sun is out now after several cloudy days. I think the temperature reached 25C. Nothing to complain considering what's going on in Canada.

    1. That would certainly be a frightening start to the day. I've been in a couple of earthquakes, but nothing too major.

  6. Good luck with the editing! I'm looking forward to reading your book.

Canned meat, huh? Well, canned ham makes decent quiche. And with a little bit of doctoring, canned corned beef hash is really good with poached eggs. Spam? Years ago, on the rare occasion that I would go out for the day without taking any of the kids with me, my husband would grill spam for them. They still laugh about it today... the words "child abuse" may have been tossed about...

    1. I've used canned ham and chicken before and they've been fine. I was dubious about the Spam, but there were some good transformations of it.

  7. Sorry, even when I ate meat I didn't know of any canned meat recipes. I'm sure that stuff soaks up whatever flavor you put on it.

    1. I've found that to be the case with canned chicken - it absorbs whatever you cook it in. I like putting it in soups.

  8. This veggie must pass! Except to express temperature envy.

    1. Understandable and I'm sure the thought of eating Spam has inspired many people to turn veggie :-)
