Wordless Wednesday | Sugar
Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:
1 - Sugar comes in all sorts of varieties. I'm used to the white and brown stuff that comes in bags. But it also comes in big solid chunks of unrefined whole cane sugar as well, like the panela pictured above.
2 - Some people swear cane sugar tastes better than corn syrup when it comes to soda pop. Personally, I can't tell the difference.
3 - I love sugar. My life would be incomplete without it. But what I don't like is the burning of sugar cane fields nearby. It leaves ash all over your boat. Top Tip: Don't leave your hatches open when they're burning, unless you happen to like an ashy residue clinging to everything.
4 - I watched a show the other day which said sugar is highly addictive, as addictive as heroin and cocaine, possibly even more addictive. Scary stuff.
What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!
I've never seen panela.
ReplyDeleteAddictive? Why do you think they put it in everything these days.
I remember coming back to the States and having some bread and being shocked at how sugary it was compared to the bread they sell in other countries. Americans are definitely accustomed to a lot of sugar (hidden and otherwise) in their food.
DeleteOh, wow. The round Goya packaging always made me think it was cheese. I never looked closer, already overwhelmed by all the selection. Heh... You see, our grocer stocks panela in the ethnic food aisles, not by the mundane sugars.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my little blog. I think Amazon is an evil addiction. ~shakes head~ But most of my music comes from there and this Prime shipping, though I wasn't the one to purchase our membership, makes the temptation worse.
I imagine something like my new towel rack would take up too much space on your darling Tickety Boo. ~grin~ Thanks for visiting with a kind word.
I imagine for many people in Indiantown panela is a mundane sugar. It looks interesting, kind of like palm sugar which we use in our Thai cooking.
DeleteI'm not into sugar. Ice Cream is my addiction, but I can pass on the baked goods, candy and the like.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
I wonder what I'd choose if it was a toss-up between a baked good (like cookies) or ice cream. Probably the baked good.
DeleteI like to pretend I can tell the difference in the flavor of corn syrup vs cane sugar. I know my body can, as if it's cane sugar, I don't feel sick an hour after. Even if sugar is super addictive, I still like it over heroin. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting that your body reacts differently to cane vs. corn syrup.
DeleteI definitely have a very sweet tooth although I do use sweetners in tea.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love sugar, I never put it in coffee or tea.
DeleteYou do know that (processed) sugar is incredibly bad for you, right? :-) Your experience with burning sugar cane residue sounds familiar to being anchored near a big city with lots of pollution, like Panama City (the one in Panama). And, in Tahiti we often found black sut on our decks from burning fires ashore. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think I might have heard somewhere that sugar is bad for you :-(
DeleteOh my....you can tell you are in Florida when the tags are in Spanish! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI have dealt with the burning cane fields my entire life and now that I live decidedly on the 'west' side of the east coast (Weston) we wake up frequently to ash all over the cars.
I do not believe that Sugar is as addictive as heroin. That is hogwash.
Read any heroin addicts story - I just read MacKenzie Phillip's memoir, 'High On Arrival' and you and I 'hopefully' will never have to lead the addict life.
As with anything in life (except heroin)...moderation is key.
- Lisa
I really should learn Spanish. It's spoken and used so commonly here. The ash is just awful. The ash burning is such a pain in the neck. Heroin addiction sounds just awful. I'm so very glad that I've never gone down that horrible path.
DeleteSugar is addictive and the amount most Americans consume is way too much. That's why doctors want to put health warning labels on sugary soda.
ReplyDeletePeople drink so much soda pop in the States. It boggles my mind. I do love sugar, but drinking that much in a beverage on a daily basis seems crazy.
DeleteI dunno if sugar is "addictive," but it sure does taste good! However, I use very little of it. I switched to stevia several years ago, and the taste is so close, no one can tell the difference.
ReplyDeleteMe? I'm addicted to reading and writing...
Reading and writing are two very good things to be addicted to. I suffer from the same problem.
DeleteI'm a sugar addict myself, especially in chocolate. Mmmm... maybe it's chocolate for breakfast this morning!
ReplyDeleteChocolate is always a good choice for breakfast...and lunch and dinner.
DeleteWow, that's scary that it's so addictive. Personally, I'm more of a savoury person, but I do have some favourite sweets.
ReplyDeleteI'll take sweet over savory most days.
