Wordless Wednesday | Monitor Lizard
Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:
1 - We've got a lot of lizards running around Florida. They're small, harmless and cute in their own reptilian sort of way.
2 - Monitor lizards, on the other hand, kind of creep me out. Maybe because they're big and lurk about in the water.
3 - Do you know what else lurks about in the water? Crocodiles and alligators. Monitor lizards kind of remind me of them, especially when I'm not wearing my glasses and they're off in the distance.
4 - I don't like to be reminded of crocodiles and alligators. I'd much prefer to be reminded of sweet and gentle animals, like kittens and unicorns.
What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

Monitor lizards make me think of the movie The Freshman.
ReplyDeleteUnicorns are gentle? Have you ever seen the movie Cabin in the Woods?
Yes, I watch too many movies...
Oh, gosh. I thought of "Cabin in the Woods", too, with the mention of unicorns. Great flick. And since I live where the most dangerous animal is mankind, monitor lizards make me smile.
DeleteI have a feeling I don't want to see that movie. The unicorns I know are all sweet and gentle :-)
DeleteI feel like I might be out of left field given your fears of the things, but I look at that and all I can think is...
ReplyDelete"BABY!"
Love lizards and reptiles in general. Monitors can be utter sweethearts and gators/crocs are only a real threat if you're dumb. At the end of the day, the later can be defeated with a strong grip and a belt. Still, I respect where you're coming from. I just know I'd probably play with it given the chance. haha
Oh, it's true, I'm a big baby :-) I don't mind smallish reptiles, but when they get big that's when I have a problem.
DeleteThis picture reminds me to stay out of the water at all times. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ☺
Or be very, very cautious when you're in the water.
DeleteHe creeps me out too! But he is cute in his own scary way. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good description of him - scary cute.
DeleteI think ugh. Sorry, monitor lizard, you’re just not cute.
ReplyDeleteI think if he didn't swim, he'd look a lot cuter to me.
DeleteEek! Why did your post have to be about lizards? Didn't I tell you I don't like them? *runs away*
ReplyDeleteOops...sorry about that :-)
DeleteI would admire the handsome fella... from a nice safe distance. :)
ReplyDeleteExactly, from a safe distance away is fine :-)
DeleteMy first thought was crocodiles and alligators as well. I had never heard of monitor lizards before. They kind of creep me out as well.
ReplyDeleteWe saw this one in Singapore. Thankfully, there aren't any in our neck of the woods, at least that I know about.
DeleteNo thanks. Alaska = no monitor lizards, crocodiles, alligators, snakes, tarantellas, poisonous insects....
ReplyDeleteAlaska sounds like a dream location, except for all of that pesky snow :-)
DeleteI love animals and any wildlife spotting (from a safe distance) makes me happy. The way these lizards move in the water, could creep one out, since crocs move the same zig-zaggy way, I think...
ReplyDeleteZig-zag usually means trouble :-)
DeleteLizards, alligators and crocs are OK (probably because I'm used to them). Monitor lizards seem really creepy!
ReplyDeleteI've actually gotten really used to alligators and almost nonchalant about them given how long we've been in Florida
DeleteWhen I see these lizards, it gives me a small glimpse into what it might have been like to live among giant dinos. If I'm honest, I find them fascinatingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLike that old TV show, I think it was called Land of the Lost, where people lived among huge dinos. That would be wild to have things so big around you.
