Wordless Wednesday | Mega Yachts In The Bahamas

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:

1 - We've seen a lot of mega yachts while we've been cruising in the Bahamas.

2 - This one was anchored near us a few times. Notice the giant inflatable slide on the side? Looks like fun, doesn't it?

3 - We met some people who are thinking about working as crew on one of these boats. I'm sure the work is hard and some of the people you have to deal with are annoying, but I bet the tips are amazing.

What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

  1. What words? More money than they know what to do with...

  2. The first word I thought of was "affluent". It's a lifestyle that most of us won't know! BTW, I'm reading Hero Lost and just finished your story. Excellent stuff - very imaginative.

  3. That's a lot of luxury right there. I've seen a lot of these yachts too. I always think about how much money they must have. Way out of my league.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ☺

  5. Ulysses -- a 160ish foot mega-yacht that we got to stay on for a couple of nights 14 years ago. It was novel, but wasn't really our cup of tea.

  6. Someday, I think I'd like to take a trip on one of those!

  7. A water slide! You could always attach a Slip-n-Slide to yours.

    1. But if you had that much money, you could probably have the yacht and as many records as you wanted :-)

  9. My first thought was that I could probably thole sailing on a yacht like that. As a guest of course, not crew. My second thought was - no I couldn't! I'd be far too embarrassed to live that way.

  10. Saw a few of these in the BVI's recently. I dont like powerboats myself and my dreamboat would be the largest sailboat my wife and I can sail on our own regardless of the amount of money I have.

BUT, seeing multimillion dollar yachts like this reminds me that it is possible in a free society to attain the wealth needed for such a lifestyle and gives me hope in a time where degrading/belittling successful people seems to be the perceived moral high ground. It's extremely unlikely that I'll ever reach the level of financial success needed to own such a yacht but it inspires me nonetheless that it is possible to do so.

AND, I am grateful that someone's financial success provided a good income to skilled craftsmen allowing the viability of an industry without which my 20 year old (but much loved) production sailbost would have been beyond my (limited) means.

I enjoy your blog and wish you all the best for the hurricane season. We live a little north of you and keep out boat in a sheltered marina close to Cape Canaveral where Matthew hit us pretty hard last year and caused some damage to our much loved old boat despite being in a hurricane hole. Really hope we don't have to go through it again this year....

    1. I'm so sorry to hear that Matthew damaged your boat. We were worried that he would come through Indiantown, even though that's a hurricane hole as well. I guess you're never really safe from Mother Nature.
