Going For A Walk | Anna Maria Island, Florida

It's been ages since I've done a <<Going for a Walk>> post. Probably because it's been ages since I've gone on anything which even remotely resembles an interesting walk.

When we do go for a walk these days, it's here in Indiantown, which is interesting the first few times you do it, but after that it's more of the same old, ho-hum kind of walk. Except when we're walking to Taco Tuesday or to the bakery for Guatemalan cookies. Tacos and cookies are never ho-hum. The best kind of walks are those in search of food.

But I digress. Thinking about food does that to me. I completely lose my train of thought until my belly is full.

So, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah. Interesting walks. We had some great ones when were were on vacation at Anna Maria Island on the Gulf Coast of Florida, which seems way too long ago now. The kind of walks that are so full of interesting things that you almost forget that your stomach is growling.

Like the funky and retro Pines Trailer Court all decorated for the holidays.

We walked through there on our way to the Bridge Street Pier at Bradenton Beach.

It's fascinating to watch the fisher folk in action with their nets.

The birds seemed interested in what the guys were fishing for too.

It's an island, so there's boats everywhere. This is the way sailboats should look.

This isn't how you want your sailboat to look - derelict and sinking into the water.

Some people even turn boats into bars.

We managed to work in some nautical history on our walk when we stopped off at the Florida Maritime Museum in nearby Cortez. It's a fascinating little museum with some really knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. And best of all, it's free. We like free.

After the museum, it was time to look at more nautical stuff - this time at the commercial fisher folk bringing in their haul.

And of course the best way to end a day - a sunset stroll on the beach.

What about you - have you been on any interesting walks lately?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!

  1. Sadly, I can't tell you the last time I went for an interesting walk . . . or even an uninteresting one. I've got to fix that!

Great pictures! I especially like the one of the boat that's gone aground -- it's eerily beautiful.

  2. LOL I love the bar boat.

I can see the decorations for Christmas in that first shot, but it appears that house is always decorated with something.

  3. Yes, we took lots of walks when we visited Fort Bragg a couple of months ago. Walking around our neighborhood for exercise is boring, but Fort Bragg was fun. Right on the ocean and that's always delightful.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    1. That sounds like a nice place to walk. Doing the same walk over and over again in one's neighborhood can get a bit dull.

  4. I love a good walk but to be frank, it's harder and harder to get up the gumption to walk around here due to boredom. I can go left, or I can go right. Either way, it's the same thing every day unless I want to walk a mile to get to where I want the real walk to begin. Love that picture of the trailer park holiday decorations.

    1. That's how I feel about walking in Indiantown. I know I should walk more, but it can be quite dull.

  5. Nice, looks warm! I went on an exciting walk today. Forgot the ice spikes so kept sliding off the road the whole time. Rain has turned our roads to an ice rink! Greetings from a Scandinavian winter...

    1. Okay, now that's just crazy to go on a walk that requires ice spikes :-)

  7. We love Florida's west coast. It's so much more laid back than the east coast and the islands are beautiful. I always wonder what the long set of circumstances are that leads a boat to be alone and sinking...so sad. I love the boat-bar!

    1. There were actually two of them sinking. Would love to know the backstory behind them.

  8. I love museums, wish I could go too, and I love that bar, very cute.

We've been so busy with our Wilderness First Aid course all week, no time for anything, even eating! I'm ready for a walk after sitting in a chair for eight hours, five days. Whew, you'd think I was back in the "working" world. Now that it's over, it's back to (boat) business..... as usual.

  9. Great pictures - love all the boats and wish I could sail again. My walking days are over, but when the weather improves I'm looking forward to exploring the Boise, Idaho area here we moved from North Wales.

  10. I love the boat bar. Very atmospheric and colorful.

While we enjoy hiking for us and for the dogs we sit, we also like walking to get food, like this evening, when we will brave the "hood of Oakland" again in search of Mexican food. There are many taco trucks to choose from. All we need to do is speak Spanish and not get killed. :-)
