Wordless Wednesday | NaNoWriMo & Secret Projects

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words. Plus this isn't a photo, it's a picture of a screen shot, so that's another rule broken.

1 - So, that secret project I was working on during November - it was NaNoWriMo.

2 - NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a challenge where people sign up to write a 50,000 word novel between November 1-30. That's 1,667 words a day.

3 - After my dismal failure last year, I decided to keep it a secret this time around.

4 - I was late to the party, starting the challenge on November 11th, and finished on November 27th. I skipped three days along the way, which means I wrote 50,021 words in just 14 days. No wonder my brain hurts.

What words does this picture(s) bring to your mind when you look at it?

  1. Good for you! As usual, I signed up and wrote madly on Day 1. And that was all she wrote. You found a great way to motivate yourself. Even if your brain hurts.

    I'm a rule breaker, too. https://readerbuzz.blogspot.com/2016/11/inprint-night-in-houston-with-authors.html

    1. I know the feeling. That was how it went for me last year - great intentions that fizzled out quickly. :-(

  2. Congratulations! Wow, you did it in two weeks. I am super impressed.

  3. My first thought- what do you mean, during November? Today is November 14th, so we've still got two weeks left! Ha!
Second thought, after checking a calendar- Wow! Very impressive and inspiring!

    1. You're messing with my mind so early in the morning. I had to go and check my calendar as I started to worry it was mid-November :-)

  4. Well done! Congrats on the NaNo win!

If I had known you were doing NaNo, too, I would've found you over there and we could've been "buddies." But then it wouldn't have been a secret, so.... :)

    1. If we both do it again next year, we'll have to buddy up. Now that I know I can do it, I probably wouldn't keep it secret again.

  9. WOW, you are impressive! No way I could write that much, but then YOU are a great writer, and I am just goofing around occasionally. Do we get to read it? huh, huh huh?

    1. One of these days, you'll get to read it :-) Right now, I need to write some more in order to finish off this first draft. Then there's a lot of editing. And I mean a lot. Hopefully, one of these days I'll have a version worthy of sharing with folks.

  10. 14 days... I have a CP who wrote a book that fast once. I couldn't do it. Way to go! That's beyond epic.

    1. Well, to be honest, right now it's just a lot of words strung together in a vague semblance of sentences. It's gonna need a lot of editing and rework.

  11. What an amazing feat, Ellen. Congratulations on sticking with it this year and doing it in half the time! Well done!!!

  12. Well done. I chose not to participate this year as I am a complete loser...or something. Yours is an impressive feat. I usually finish the 50,000 just before 8pm on the 30th. Well, when I participate...like a winner, not a loser, which I am this year.

    1. Aww...you're not a complete loser :-) If you are, that would make me one too as I bombed it last year.

  13. That's a fantastic achievement, and it makes sense that you kept quiet about it. So have a drink and celebrate with....chocolate or whatever.
