Worldess Wednesday | Williston, North Dakota

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:

1- These are some old postcards from Williston, North Dakota. I love the colors.

2 - Do people even send postcards anymore when they're on vacation?

3 -  Scott's from North Dakota. It gets really cold there. You have to be hardy to live in North Dakota. Scott's hardy. Me, not so much. That might explain why we don't live in North Dakota.

What words do these picture brings to your mind when you look at them?

  1. I still send postcards when I go on vacation. I like it when other people send me postcards, too.

    1. We tend to buy postcards with the intention of sending them to people but end up never mailing them. It is fun to get postcards in the mail.

  2. People used to dress more formally - and I bet they had a lot fewer clothes than even I do! Winter isn't my speciality. I think you have to really love skiing to love winter!

    1. There definitely was a more glamorous look back then. I like skiing, but I wish it wasn't so cold when I'm doing it.

  3. Think how much effort went into those postcards. Someone had to color them.

    1. A romantic air is a really good description of them.

    1. They were the good old days. Or do they just seem that way from our perspective :-)

  6. Oh my goodness--look at those roads! Can you even imagine traveling on those? Wow. What an amazing glimpse into the past.

    1. I bet those roads got really challenging to travel on during snow storms and the like.

  7. I gave up postcards several years ago. I do like looking at old ones though - I have an album which belonged to my great-aunt and it's full of gems.

    1. These came from a collection of Scott's grandmother. They were fascinating to look through.

  8. I still like the post card concept. Just bought one in Acadia NP for my best friend, but, as a sailor, she doesn't have an address. Guess I'll just hold on to it until we meet again. :-) I guess the postcard concept does come with a few "issues"... I do still send my 95-year-old oma (my favorite grandma) postcards once in a while. Drove through North Dakota on the way to Alaska many moons ago. Wouldn't do it in winter! Very nostalgic post, Ellen.

  9. I buy postcards when I can't take a good photo of something, but can't remember ever sending one.

    1. That's a really good idea. Postcards often have wonderful pictures that amateur photographers would have a hard time capturing.

  10. I absolutely love these vintage postcards!!! And being that postal communication seems to be dying out in favour of e-mail and e-cards, I kind of miss the old ways of receiving a letter or postcard in the mail. :)

    1. It was nice to get letters in the mail. I can't remember the last time I got one. Nowadays it's just email.
