Wordless Wednesday | Corinth Canal In Greece

Wordless Wednesday is supposed to be about posting a photo(s) without any words. But, I'm a rule breaker, so here are a few words:

1 -  The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea and cuts through the narrow isthmus that separates the Greek mainland from Peloponnese. It's four miles long and only 70 feet wide.

2 - We traveled through the canal many years ago on a no frills budget cruise run by the folks at the European budget airline company, Easy Jet. It was a cheap and cheerful way to see the historical sights in Greece.

3 - I love Greek food, especially spanokopita and pretty much anything with lamb.

What words does this picture bring to your mind when you look at it?

  1. I bet that's a long four miles. If I were a mystery writer, I'd say that was a great place for a murder.
Cool that you got to see it!

  2. Oooo, I'd feel a bit claustrophobic passing through the canal. It's probably wider than it appears through the eye of the camera, but it still seems a bit cramp to me. lol This is a beautiful shot, though. I love how the picture draws my eyes along the canal walls toward the open on the other end. Is that a bridge spanning the canal in the background? It must be really cool to travel the world by boat. I admire your sense of adventure on the open sea and all. That's another thing I couldn't do (water travel) because of my fears. At least I can share in what you see and do. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I really hope we can take our sailboat there one day. Scott's been lucky enough to be there on sailboat, while my travels have been limited to the cruise we took there and travel by air.

  4. Beautiful! The picture makes me wonder how tall the bridge is?

    1. Hmmm...good question. I'd fail if this came up on Jeopardy. I'm going to go with "tall enough."

  5. The composition of this picture reminds me of a painting I did years ago: a stream in the middle, two high banks, and a bridge in the center. Kinda spooky. I love spanokopita too! A family friend makes it for us when we visit them.

    1. I'd love to see a picture of that painting. So jealous that you have someone to make spanokopita for you. I used to make it many years ago. Very time consuming, but delish.

  6. I would love to go through here too. Anything on a boat works for me just fine.

Have a fabulous Wordless or Wordy Wednesday. ☺

  7. What a cool experience. Very different from the Panama Canal. More picturesque, for sure!

    1. A very different kind of adventure than the Panama Canal. I wouldn't mind doing that one day.

    1. Definitely! You guys hurry up, get your boat finished, retire, bring your boat through the Panama Canal and we'll meet you in Greece :-)

  9. What a great shot of perspective! I had to do that in a drawing class one time, many eons ago. (Possibly before that canal was built.)

    1. I always failed miserably at perspective when I did drawing classes :-(
