3 Silly Things, 2 Observations & 1 Pretty Picture

I don't have time for one of my more normal blog posts (not that any of them are really that normal) because I've been swamped with getting my Nancy Drew posts ready for the A to Z Challenge starting this Friday. Plus, I've been a bit tad under the weather which means not only am I ignoring boat projects, but I'm also not putting a lot of effort into today's post.

So, instead, I present to you - 3 silly things, 2 observations and 1 pretty picture.

Silly Things

Old sailors never die. They just get a little dinghy.

****

He would have become a sailor but he didn't want to make waves.

****

I have a deck but no backyard.
I have a bow but no arrows
I have a wheel but I'm not a car
I have a beam but I'm not a light
I have a stern but I'm not serious
I have a crow's nest but there are no birds

What am I?

Observations

When you make something in a slow cooker, the wee beastie inside tantalizes you with wonderful aromas until you crack open the lid to try some long before it's done cooking. Then, because you let all the heat out, you have to add more time on for it to be fully cooked. Today, I'm making tortellini and bean soup. Will I be able to resist the tantalizing smells of onion, garlic, tomatoes and Italian herbs and leave it be until suppertime? Place your bets.

****

Why does everything sound better when said with a Scottish accent? Sure, they might be telling you to get out of the way (Ye mak a better door than a windae) but it sounds lovely when they say it. Perhaps, I've been watching too many old episodes of Monarch of the Glen lately?

Pretty Picture

In much of the Northern Hemisphere, spring is in evidence all around with flowers and pleasant weather just right for strolling in the garden. In southern Florida, however, we've skipped spring and jumped right into summer with scorching hot weather, so I have to content myself with looking back on pretty pictures from more temperate climates.

    1. It was a fun riddle, wasn't it. Wish I had been clever enough to come up with it myself :-)

  3. Oh I open up my slow cooker at least 10 times throughout the day to stir and smell. I don't always taste--depends what it is! If it's chicken, though, it doesn't need to be stirred so I leave it. Chili and spaghetti sauce gets stirred throughout the day but the ground beef is already cooked, so it's just stewing in its juices to get really good!

    1. I'm a compulsive taster and stirrer :-) I often make chili in the slow cooker, but a vegetarian version. The thing I like about chili is that it has so much flavor that you don't even notice there isn't any meat in it.

  5. Hehehe! Silly things. :) I'm going to have to try that riddle with my son. Sometimes I say things with a British or Slavic accent. I can't manage the Scottish one without sounding like a pirate!

  6. Just like an Irish accent, you can't be mad at a Leprechaun even if he is stealing your beer.

    1. I know I shouldn't, but it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one not quite ready for Friday.

  9. Please, do not tell me that it's suddenly become **hot.** We're still enjoying perfect 70s temp here in St Aug, I know the heat and humidity is coming but I'm still in denial. (PS, loved the kid's riddle, I'll have to remember that one)

    1. See how lucky you are to be a little further north? I can only dream of temps in the 70s!

  10. Currently visiting my son in the Pacific northwest, where there are chilly breezes and snowcapped mountains all around. Mount Rainier, in all its icy splendor, is right outside my son's kitchen window on this beautiful clear evening. I don't envy you the scorching heat! I'm about as physically distant from Florida as possible but still be in the same country, but we are in the same boat (pun intended) when it comes to the hectic final days before the A-to-Z gets cranking! Best wishes to you, and a speedy recovery to what ails ye.
