Crazy Cat Lady Strikes Again

I don't know about you, but I can't bear to look at the news anymore. Too depressing. Too much ugliness. So, how about we distract ourselves with some pictures of cats instead?

This cat has his priorities straight. Why watch the news when you can take a nap instead.

Francesca was a good cat. She knew that reading a book was far better than watching the news.

This is Sylvester the marina cat. He could care less what's on the news. All he's interested in is whether or not you're going to feed him.

What do you do when you need to distract yourself from what's going on around you?

Thanks for stopping by our blog - we love it when people come visit! We're also on Facebook - pop by and say hi!

  1. Sleeping, reading, and eating are all better alternatives.
I watch movies and play my music. Much better than the news.

  2. I've found it really easy to ignore the news since we've been out cruising. No TV, so society, no desire to spend data finding out the news. So instead, we stare at other boaters in our binoculars, try not to run aground, and read books. Oh, and fix the boat!

    1. Ah, very true - when you're limited by your cellular data, you have to make serious choices about when and why you access the internet. Checking the news goes way down the priority list compared to looking up how to fix the latest thing to break on your boat :-)

  3. I go sit on our boat and read a good book. That's what I do.

Have a fabulous day my friend. ☺

  4. What do I do when you need to distract myself from what's going on around me? Nothing. Because I usually am the distraction! ;-)

Seriously though, I was just telling some friends about the lead story on the national news in New Zealand one night (John Campbell, channel 3). Some bloke down in Dunedin (or maybe it was Bluff) had owned the local fish & chips shop for 30 odd years and was retiring. We miss that. A lot.

Here's to a great news free day (unless it's good, heartwarming stuff) and plenty of cats!

    Cheers,

    1. That's too funny about the news coverage in NZ and so very true! Such a happy and relatively safe place to live.

  5. Thoroughly approve of cats. Nothing crazy about that. As for the news - I despair.

  6. I am quite a cat lover, and I have one of my own, so I absolutely love these photos! What I do for distraction...well, I love to brush my cat, and some other things...doing my blog, reading a good book, going for a long walk in nature (when it is not too hot and humid). :)

    1. Long walks are a wonderful distraction - you can't help but forget about the troubles in the world when you're surrounded by nature.

  7. I'm the opposite. I'm glued to CNN if there's a breaking story and watch the coverage of the election races when possible. Bad news doesn't really affect me. It's reality and my priority is truth. Love the non-news-watching cats you pictured though! :)

    1. To be honest, if I had a TV, I'd probably have it on 24/7 to watch breaking stories. I like your philosophy of not being affected by bad news and prioritizing truth.

  8. What news? I retired over a year ago and one of the first things I did was unplug the cable. I find walking my dog and playing with our cats to be all the distraction I need. Well of course there is always the sailing day here on Lake Superior.

    1. Dogs are wonderful distractions too. They exude happiness and can quickly make you forget about the troubles in the world.

  9. I never watch TV news, local or otherwise, and can't remember the last time I did. Probably 20+ years or more. Too much hype. I read, garden, cook, walk, or get out my yoga mat.

    1. Way too much hype, especially during an election cycle. Yoga sounds like a great way to distract yourself.

  10. When we were cruising, we were blissfully (some would call it ignorantly) unaware of the news. Back on land, it is a bit tougher to be unaffected by the news and it all feels much closer to "home" as well. I still try to not get depressed by it and often feel like I want to escape (on a new adventure). A temporary remedy now is to go out into nature and walk or hike, or read a good book.

    1. I know what you mean - While I paid attention to the US news when we lived overseas, it definitely affects me more now that I'm back at "home." It's a lot harder to ignore now.

  11. I try to accept what I cannot change, and to make positive choices in my life, as much as it depends on me.

  12. Great idea! Cat pictured are much better. I definitely try to stay away from watching the news. Most of the time I see what's happening when I'm scrolling through Facebook.

    1. I think they should turn CNN into a 24 hour a day cat channel. After all, it starts with the letter "C" - that must stand for cats, right?
